The Lost Bakery
Creative Digital Design CourseThe Lost Bakery is a digital, collaborative archive for preserving traditional Spanish pastries and breads, which are slowly disappearing. Inspired by the Ark of Taste, a global food archive by the Slow Food organization, I wanted to create a more accessible and community-driven platform to document and share endangered recipes.
Using Google Sheets, I built a simple yet functional digital archive where users can explore pastries by region, preparation method, or ingredient. It includes recipes to encourage home baking, a directory of bakeries still producing these goods, and illustrated profiles of unique ingredients. It is kept in Spanish and English.
This project allowed me to approach an unusual digital tool creatively and how we can create website-like interfaces in a new way without coding experience. The idea is for this archive to be open, and, using the comment function, it allows anyone with an email to leave feedback, make suggestions or include links and resources. The Lost Bakery is a small step toward celebrating and saving culinary heritage while inviting others to take part.
